January 04, 2004bird butts
One of the things I love about being carless in San Francisco are the treasures you notice because you are on foot. One of the more satisfying pleasures on my walks happens when my antennae are especially tuned, my intuition especially acute, and I find myself looking up at exactly the right moment. Sometimes there is a dog or cat staring back at me from the bay window above the couch. And sometimes there are bird butts. Posted on January 4, 2004 03:16 PMComments
I absolutely adore that photo! Posted by: Krissy at January 10, 2004 06:12 AMYour appreciation and joy for life always makes me happy! Thanks for the giggles. :) Posted by: Mandy at January 9, 2004 11:54 PMthe company I work for just moved into executive suites and before we moved I was nervous about moving here. The thought of sharing a floor with lots of other strangers didn't sit well with me. Too many people to pass in the hall. I love your butts! Well, ahem, anyway,at first I thought this was a picture of a schoolyard phone line, like the one that was across the street from my home in Brooklyn. The kids would throw eachothers sneakers over the line, irretrievable. They do the same sort of thing in Big Fish, the new Tim Burton film, There is a German company that does a line of children's clothing called "Kinderbutt". I always thought that was a rather unfortunate choice of name. Really like your bird butts, though. Posted by: Katrin at January 8, 2004 12:23 PMBeyond the butts, I love the color of the blue sky...living in gloomy, cold, snowy, Indiana & it has been a while since I've seen that shade of blue in the sky. It is quite refreshing to see it here. what lovely birds. Posted by: Ani at January 8, 2004 06:49 AMThis is hysterical! I'm still grinning just from looking at it. Thank goodness we have you to find and point out all the amazing, hilarious, and delightful sights to be seen, if we all simply took the time to look, and really "see" them. (What kind of birds are those anyway?? in the picture they look as thought they have yellow feathered bird butts?) Posted by: Julia at January 7, 2004 07:33 PMI moved from SF to Boston this year and I miss the bird butts. I suppose there must be some around here, as well, but I haven't really noticed them so far. Maybe because it's 16 degrees outside right now. Oi. I'm not sure where you took your picture, but on Potrero Hill there's a section of telephone wire where 1000s of birds show up for about a half hour every evening to watch the sun set. They arrive en masse and take off when the show is over. It's so cool. Love you blog. Ann Posted by: ann-marie at January 7, 2004 01:36 PMOh my god, "bird butts", that was hilarious. I never saw a picture or even thought of bird butts before. Now I am wondering if fish have butts, or plants. Do houses have butts? Thanks I needed that, very refreshing. By the way i have a tape you made me a thousand years ago and it is called "i miss yer butt". I listened to it yesterday. Lots of butts. butt butt butt. lovebutt. Posted by: James at January 7, 2004 12:53 AMhey! how funny! i always loved observing birds on telephone wire. but i've never saw bird butts. i'll watch out for them next time. don't worry i'll be careful, i don't want to get anything on my face! :) Posted by: lucia at January 6, 2004 11:09 PMI visited Portinscale last summer. (It's in the Lake District, UK - next to Keswick). Anyway, I was sitting at the dock one late afternoon and I saw a frightening number of ducks in the lake mooning me. Apparently, it was feeding time and they have to sort of "duck" their little heads in the water...and in turn, their bottoms were for the whole world to see. Nature never ceases to amuse/amaze me. Posted by: Pattricia at January 6, 2004 10:18 PMi love the picture :) thank you for taking time out to let me know you appreciated my words. i appreciate yours! :) Posted by: erika at January 6, 2004 07:25 PM |
