August 23, 2004new friends
I met the adorable, amazing Emily Lyles this weekend. While having iced tea and shortbread at my favorite cafe, I was reminded of the joys of having friends of all different ages. I have made some extraordinary friends who are older than me (perhaps being a little sister this was more natural?) but was so inspired by Emily (brilliant, creative, 18 year old). I don't think I've spoken to someone just out of high school since 1989 when I graduated myself! I loved hearing what she was thinking about and what life is like for her. Today, I get the pleaure of meeting Danny Gregory for some drawing, dahlia viewing, picture taking and other shenanigans. New friends abound.. Posted on August 23, 2004 09:33 AMComments
Andrea - I cannot believe I found you! We spent so many fun times living together at UCSB. I just moved from Sausalito to SLC, Utah and would love to get in touch with you. I cannot wait to connect! Becca Oooooh! I love Danny Gregory!! His weblog is always a favorite destination of mine, on the net. How wonderful to be hanging out with him, drawing and taking pictures. Sounds like you have a delightful day planned. I too, agree with many of the others who said you and Emily look alot like you are related. How uncanny (& cool) is that? Posted by: Julia at August 24, 2004 07:50 PMYouth today amaze me, from people like Emily to my boss's five year old daughter. I have so much appreciation for the intelligence and insight that they have to offer. And yes, as others said - you two do look like sisters! Posted by: kat at August 24, 2004 01:35 PMI had the exact same thoughts as Rachel...you purty girls could pass as sisters, both physically and spiritually (for lack of a better word). Did the necklace initiate conversation, or was it gifted to her? Posted by: Jason at August 24, 2004 08:53 AMI think you two could pass for sisters. I'm curious to know if she was sporting that supehero necklace when you met her. Either you spotted her wearing the necklace as she waited for her change at the register or she discovered the artist responsible while sipping her tea across the cafe... it would be an interesting way to meet a new friend. Enjoy your shenanigans with Danny Gregory. I'm sure you'll have a great time.
