November 08, 2004birthdays & exploding fruit
I had a wonderful birthday party this weekend where my friend Martine Locke performed. I urge you to have a house concert in your own home! It's an incredible feeling to have live music right there in your living room and a great way to support local artists. As for the rest of the night, I give you this image below.
After Martine played, the party degraded into a festival of exploding fruit. A friend of ours loves to explode things (watermelons, pumpkins, etc.) As Matt and Camie rifled through drawers searching for birthday candles, they heard over their shoulders, "ooohh... firecrackers.." and Camie turned and said, "No boys, no." Sure enough, an hour or so later there was an M-80 strapped to a pineapple in our yard and a crowd had formed to watch. Apparently we all had mixed feelings about seeing it combust because everyone started shouting, "Go pineapple! Go pineapple!" Next was a lime that really didn't stand a chance and went up in a single puff of smoke. Poof. But Tweety was another story. There was smoke, a shower of sparks and then Tweety floating up, up and away {fully intact somehow} into the night sky, over the rooftops, victorious. We waved until we couldn't see him anymore and as he disappeared, I made one final birthday wish that I hope Tweety carried with him. Comments
Thank you for sharing the highlights of your wonderful birthday party. I loved the exploding fruit idea....it cracked me up! What a sight to see,I bet. :) Posted by: Julia at November 9, 2004 05:56 PMSounds like a brilliant party Andrea! ooooh, and look, is that an Andrea Scher work behind Martine? Me thinks so..... Posted by: Dawn at November 8, 2004 11:49 AMWhat an awesome birthday! Maybe I'll have a house concert for my next birthday party. Is it terribly expensive? Posted by: Caroline at November 8, 2004 10:38 AMI think it's so wonderful that you've created such a wonderful group of friends and family that you can have parties like this...happy, happy birthday, and many more to come V. Happy Birthday! -=SAM=- p.s. we used to release balloons into the wild, until someones bridal shower balloon got stuck in a tree in our front yard... it was sort of an omen that perhaps we should let them loose in a non-tree filled area. ;-) Posted by: samantha at November 8, 2004 10:12 AMYay Tweety! I love watching balloons go up, up, and AWAY! As a child, my father would take me to the amusement park and we would always leave with two balloons. One that I would bring home and put over my bed. The other would be released. I dreamed that one day they would be re-united in Balloon heaven. Remember that wonderful book and movie by Albert Lamorisse? "The Red Balloon". WONDERFUL! Much love and birthday wishes to you dear girl. --D PS- I love blowing up fruit! It's also fun to drop it from a height...hee hee...(just make sure no one is below). Fruit safety is #1 Posted by: Donavan at November 8, 2004 09:51 AMWOW - I guess we left way to early huh? How hilarious :) xo Posted by: stef at November 8, 2004 09:37 AM |
