That is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon, I absolutely agree!! I just bought a bike over the weekend, and plan on using it to commute to work, and had it in mind that I would take different routes to work for exactly the same reasons that you did your walk. I think it's totally fun to try and get out there and see things in a different way...and if I ever get out to San Fransisco, I'm buying that book!

Wonderful. I particularly like the subdued colours and the oddly bright, yet diffuse lighting.

I checked to see if they have a walking book of Portland, one which focuses on the city sights rather than the obviously sublime natural beauty we have here ... there isn't one. Anyone out there want to collaborate on a project? :-) What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon, Andrea.

I walk a lot with my two mad-hatter dogs. They sniff and bound from place to place, eating grass, shoving their noses is the daffodils that line the walk. They help me to get earthy about my environment. Nothing like a mouthful of runny mud to feel steeped in Mother Nature!

Love the comment about angling one's head to get a new perspective.

I read something a long time ago back in school. A guy said that if life is dull or your stuck doing repetative things, just tilt your head or turn it slightly to the left or right, and now you see the "same ole, same ole" from a different point of view.

I've read a nice quote this morning [can't remember the person who coined it, though]:

"If you're pissed at life, then you're not paying enough attention."
