oh, they're wonderful! we virtually lived on them in the summers, when we spent our holidays on a dutch island [they also have ginger spice cookies that are to die for. well, maybe to sell one's last shirt. definitely that.].
luckily, stroopwaffels are now well-introduced to local shops here, where it seems the eco-oriented food shops sort of introduced them first.

I'm dutch and it is always so funny to read about stroopwafels and all the foreign people who love them. :) I can buy them fresh at the market around the corner, still a bit hot... I have sent stroopwafels to friends in the US in Canada a couple of times. Everybody loves them.

I am so amused that it is cookies that have generated so many repsonses! (Not that they don't deserve it ;) I think I have sighted these also at Ikea of all places. It sounds like you have enough local locations to keep you up to your ears in them, but another places to try is Haig's. It is one of my favorite places in SF, but I don't go there very often because it's too dangerous! It's an import grocery store, with real English Cadbury, Indian spices and about 17 different kinds of Turkish Delight. They have a good selection of Dutch items, including lots of licorice, and Hagel, which are real chocolate sprinkles which traditionally you eat on toast. (Don't the Dutch know what's up?) So they might have the cookies too, but I haven't been for a while, for safety's sake...

My ex-husband was from Holland ... when we divorced I mourned the loss of his mother's home-baked stroopwaffels for years. Now I've found them at a local Dutch store, and yes, it's all about the maple and the butter.

Speaking of butter, Trader Joe's sells the most scrumptious European-style butter called Plugra--seriously ups the wow factor of any recipe it's used it, especially cookies! :) Try it sometime.

I got these cookies for a Christmas gift and was told they are supposed to sit on top of your warm coffee-filled mug to warm and melt the caramel inside. Pretty tasty.

Andrea - you can buy Stroopwaffels at Whole Foods! In the cookie/snack aisle. They come in different flavors, too...but I do like the original maple & waffle flavor best.

I saw those treats (individually wrapped) today at the Borders Books Cafe. I almost bought one, but didn't. Bad choice, apparently.

I love to make myself a hothot cuppa coffee and then sit a stroopwaffle on top of the cup, letting the steamy heat melt the carmelly goodness inside the wafers.....(don't leave the wafer TOO long or it will get soggy and that's just no good)

Stroopwafels are really the only thing I'll miss when I move from Holland to Canada. And my friends abroad can't get enough of them. When I go to England I have to tell them I can only bring one pack for everyone because otherwise no clothes will fit in my suitcase!

Yes, they also sell them at St**bu**s. I bought one on my moving day last Saturday because I'm reading Lord of the Rings right now, and whehever they talk about Lembas, the elven cakes that keep you going, I thought of stroopwaffels. My friend used to get them for us at Rainbow Grocery, and I'm sure I've seen them in many other places. Often, they're called "Dutch Caramel Wafers" or "Dutch Caramel Cookies".

cool! you've found one of the best desserst out there! my twin brother was a missionary in the netherlands and loves stroopwaffels, he was nice enough to share some when he came back a few years ago to the states. Mmmmy!

Love the shoes. Yes, stroopwaffels are fab - I bought some from a gourmet catalouge years ago - try making ice cream sandwiches with them with caramel ice cream! Yum!

Ah...Stroopwaffels! My cousin is currently living in the Netherlands and recommended heating them before you eat them. We bought some on our last visit in Rotterdam. I'm embarrassed to say they didn't even last long enough to get close to the kitchen...

I lived in Holland for 2 years during high school... indeed, stroopwaffels are addictive!!

Cute shoes!! By the way....Trader Joe's here in So. Cal has "Stroopwafels" sporadically. (usually near the holidays), but also here and there throughout the year they are sometimes on the shelves in their cookie section. You have TJ'S stores in SF right??? Happy eating! you're right...they are yummy. :)

Here in Cambridge, MA they also sell stroopwaffels in Trader Joe's. A friend from work brought them home from a trip to Amsterdam, and finding them locally was the great (but horrible for the waistline).
