wackadoodle

penis_rocks.jpg
penis rocks, Canon Digital Rebel

In the midst of so much sad news, I offer up a few items to make you giggle today. A tomato fight in Valencia, Spain made me want to initiate a neighborhood food fight, my friend Wendy's impressive phallic rock collection (see above) made me grateful for my wackadoodle friends, and a lovely dinner party welcoming back Jeff and Keri(where we told pee stories for a good solid hour or two) made me remember my self that is silly and maybe even happy. (I have lost touch with this self this year. Hello, long lost friend.)

And while I don't offer these things as a substitute for feeling our grief right now,
for feeling our anger and our hurt, I offer them as a tiny crack of a refuge, a split in the rock where a tiny flower is blooming.

"This is love: to fly toward a secret sky, to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment. First to let go of life. Finally, to take a step without feet." -Rumi

my friend alerted me to the remarkable likeeness of the 8th and 9th rocks from the front. She said they look amazingly like real dicks.

Wandered here a little while back... just wanted to say that your photos and musings are welcome distractions to my day... whether I am in the midst of the non-stop deluge of work or bad news or just the world.
It is never easy to share oneself, yet you make it seem very natural. Thank you...

Oh and I hope you don't mind. I put the penis post on my site too, to detract from the doom and gloom of the hurricane. It was the happiest thing i read all day. I get in a rut you know. love james

the last two paragraphs---very uplifting. thanks for sharing your words, as well as those of a beloved poet.

Thanks for this post, Andrea. It wasn't until I read the sentence about losing touch with that self that I realized I've lost touch with that self too. I've felt raw since 9-11 and all that's happened between now and then... thanks for another brilliant insight! As I've said before, you're a real blessing!

I think we were given these broad ranges of emotions for a reason, for us to use them, express them and feel them. S

ometimes I feel awkward when sadness and grief intermix with humour but I think sometimes it's the heart's natural reflex. I don't think one diminishes the other.

PS - I am one of those people who always gets the giggles at church or at a funeral. ALWAYS.

Andrea,

This was very needed.

Great collection I must say. This really made me smile. I realize there are always things out there I completly don't know about, like penis rock collections.

Thanks for sharing with us.

I'm so glad Keri and Jeff are going to be close, how exciting for you.

Penis rocks rock!

This gives a new meaning to the term, "rock out with your cock out".

More like, "cock out with your rock out"

Or something like that...

I'm really fascinated, did your friend actually find these rocks as is or did she sculpt them?

If she did indeed find them, then this is yet another example of the fact that...

A. The universe has a perversely wondrous sense of humor.
B. God wants us to laugh more.
C. Dildos can be found while beachcombing.
D. All of the above.

I will never think of the term "rock hard" in quite the same way again.

;)

I come here often, and am glad to see each new post. I was involved in a car accident this weekend, a young woman who was driving drunk rear ended me. I have no major injury but lots of bumps and bruises, thank you for the uplifting words and I love the penis rocks..but Rumi says it all. I am grateful to be alive.

I am one of the many who really needed a "chuckle" in the midst of all the chaos. Thanks for the photo of the "penis rocks". They are funny in that wonderfully demented, and silly way that I needed so much today. I suppose that finding humor somewhere, even when things seem so bleak and tragic, is the beginning of healing. Thanks for jump-starting the healing process. You are a treasure. :)

Thanks so much for the reasons to laugh. It helped immensely. I will never give up hoping tomorrow will be better than today, but sometimes I need a little help remembering.

I definitely giggled at the penis rocks. :)

I am thinking I might try to fly toward a secret sky this week. I am thinking I am due a step without feet.

such welcome words. thank you.

THANK YOU! Sweet Jesus, I've been so depressed by the news (and a bunch of other things) that I don't know what to do with myself. I need a heartwarming story of a puppy or a kitten towing their owner to safety or something. But while I wait for that, penis rocks help!
Hope-germinating here I come...... :)

Posted by: Meg at September 5, 2005 03:20 PM

At times like this it can be vital to remember the light, the positive, the joy in life as part of the process of recovery and rebuilding. We need hope-germinators...and sometimes something as simple as a laugh can plant that seed...
