November 12, 2006Now that I am 35...
I believe in art, I believe in love, I believe in color. I believe in Montreal bagels, Mt. Tam cheese and a good bubble bath that smells like lemons and black currant. I believe in making friends and keeping them, in meeting your heroes I believe in the cartoon blue sky at dusk. I believe in the fiery maple leaves on the sidewalk that look like starfish. I believe in a tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream in your morning espresso. I believe Oprah when she says that all kids ever want to know about their parents is this: "Does their face light up when I walk into the room?" I believe in strong women, strong coffee and strong friendship. I believe in celebrating the ones you love, writing thank you notes sooner than later, and telling the truth even sooner than that. I believe in hugging people the first time you meet them. I believe in synchronicity, in intuition and in my own magic. I believe in friends and family to support me, in my partner who loves me, and that there are angels to help me out when I can't help myself. I believe that to stay young, you must stay curious and have a tiny adventure every day. I believe in people singing together, in holding hands, and in people who are easily moved to tears. I believe that somehow we all think we're not good enough, and if I had one superhero power it would be to remind you to trust yourself... Posted on November 12, 2006 05:58 PMComments
You've inspired me to write my own list. In looking at how simple the things are that mean the most (colors, smells, memories, sounds, etc.), I want to live those luscious words of Mary Oliver: "When it's over, I want to say: all my life I was a bride married to amazement. I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms." I believe in the power your words have to always touch and lift my heart. I believe that the sun shines in you. I believe in small joys like organic jasmine tea that I start my day with. I believe that the world needs more people who fight the good fight like you and Matt to bring a healthy well loved (and oh so wanted child into this world). I believe that every child should come into the world surround by such love. I believe that it is everyone's birthright. I believe in watching the sun rise whenever possible. I believe in stepping in mud puddles every so often. I believe that we are all here to save each other. I believe we always need to create new stories while respecting the gifts and lessons from the past. I believe that if you can just get up in the morning (even if you have to crawl) that you can always begin again. I believe that you are a superhero because you remind us to see ourselves and how to love what we see.
