This weekend Ben got to meet his hero Deb Talan of the Weepies (his labor album and all time fave). I think he won her over when he laughed in his sleep while she was holding him.

Nice work Ben. She'll totally babysit now.

OK, this is weird... I just posted a comment (for the first time) on your blog, then poked around and found this post. I know Deb Talan! Her sister Susa is one of my oldest friends. Two degrees of separation... Please tell Deb Jena says hello!

Posted by: Jena Strong at March 20, 2007 09:33 AM

Oh, the cuteness. The lovelyness, the soulfulness.

Posted by: B. at February 14, 2007 09:55 AM

i spent a good portion of my sunday dinner singing deb talen's praises. i would love to draw her and steve some day but they never return my calls. (hint hint!)

Posted by: rama at February 12, 2007 12:21 PM

How do you know all these famous people? It's the Boston music scene, clearly, right? Did you go to school all together or what?

Just curious how that happens...

Posted by: ProfReb at February 10, 2007 03:09 AM

are you kidding? i love the weepies! i listen to them everyday -- my four year old knows the words to citywide rodeo, stars, etc! go ben, go ben...

Posted by: ann at February 8, 2007 11:01 AM

that photo is great!

and can i just say that i had the pleasure of hearing deb play about a month or two ago and it was such a gift...

Posted by: nina at February 8, 2007 07:16 AM

ok i have see quite a few new born babies in the last 3 months and i am delurking to say that Ben is by far the cutest baby i have seen.
he really does have that overwhelming cuteness about him. he has a beautiful smile and thoughtful eyes.
Congratulations!

Posted by: maddy at February 7, 2007 11:04 PM

K I am kind of delurking here because I can't believe you KNOW Deb Talan! I LOVE her, she used to be in a band called Hummingfish out of Portland, OR and I still listen to their CD Love Traktor all the time. I went to Whitman in Walla Walla and they used to play there like twice a year and their shows were THE BOMB. So...I love Superhero, I love Deb Talan and now little Ben and Deb are in a photo together and I'm over the moon. GO YOU! GO DEB! But I didn't know about the Weepies so I'm off to score myself a CD.

In other news, the cuteness of wee Ben is acute, ever-jaw-dropping, and I am so grateful you are sharing his extreme adorableness with us over the Internets. Sending your family mad hot beams of totally platonic LOVE energy.

Posted by: colette at February 7, 2007 10:58 PM

well, we know deb will be able to sing a pretty mean lullaby, so i think she's the dream babysitter!

Posted by: Vivienne at February 7, 2007 09:27 PM

So precious! What strikes me every time I see your little one is how much a PERSON he already is. The look in his eyes is so alert and aware and sweet. You are a lucky woman!

Posted by: sophia at February 7, 2007 09:08 PM

Of course Ben is adorable and scrumptious...but I also want to say THANK YOU for introducing me to the Weepies! I am in love with their music and I am rushing out to buy the CD! I love it, love it, love it! Just my style!!!!
Amy - see you in anger management class on Thursday. Just joking with you :)~

Posted by: Jessica at February 7, 2007 06:22 PM

Amy, is that kind of comment really necessary? I agree with your sentiment but find your choice of words violent, disturbing and quite inappropriate.

Posted by: K at February 7, 2007 03:30 PM

Wow Andrea, that is one beautiful child you made! Really, really beautiful :)

Posted by: Sam at February 7, 2007 02:49 PM

absolutely adorable.

Posted by: maryelizabeth at February 7, 2007 01:06 PM

I wanna meet Deb! She's my fave...

Both of them are so cute! I just want to beat them senseless and puch their faces so they'll stop being so damn adorable!

Posted by: amy at February 7, 2007 12:53 PM

ok, the child is like 2 months old and he's already met one of my heroes? fantastic.

Hi, I have no idea who you are and I just happened upon this site...don't even remember how...but I just wanted to let you know that you have one of most beautiful babies I've ever seen! Enjoy him :-)

Posted by: Julia at February 7, 2007 02:31 AM

I would give anything to be as photogenic as your little one. Does it just run in the family??

Posted by: Anna at February 7, 2007 12:07 AM

Aww...
adorable Ben.

And I have been digging "Say I am you".
Tell Deb that.

Love!

I have to say that Ben is edible! Precious and lovely in his first few months of life. I remember suggesting to you that we all think happy baby thoughts for you and Matt over a year ago...and I remember feeling that the baby was on the way and it just makes me so happy to see his shining face smiling back at me....I had to share!
xo, Amy

Posted by: Sandy at February 6, 2007 06:53 AM

OMG...Deb Talan is a friend of yours. Ok, diggin a big time stretch of six degree of separation here, lol. LOVE the Weepies! In fact I think I found out about them from, well, YOU! No, maybe it was Ali Edwards...who found them from you. It probably all comes back to your blog, lol.

If she writes Ben a lullaby or something I'm just gonna have to lie to people and tell them I know you, ok! lol

I swear he looks like a little person with that FACE of his...oh, what a face!

Posted by: amy j. at February 5, 2007 10:05 PM

I have Deb Talan and The Weepies in heavy rotation these days -- that music just makes me feel good. Apparently Ben likes them as much as I do! As always, adorable photo, Andrea.

Posted by: jennifer at February 5, 2007 04:15 PM

love it - sooo cute!

xo

Posted by: stef at February 5, 2007 03:16 PM

What a couple of lovey doveys - looks like they've both got a new life long friend.

By the way, I'm interested in knowing what kind of wipe warmer you've got - my brother and his wife are pregnant and I'm interested in getting one for them (in addition to something from their baby registry that they actually asked for of course - I figure if I give them something they want they won't mind to much that they're getting something I want...).

Posted by: Jennifer at February 5, 2007 03:13 PM

I love that the Weepies were his first introduction to music! He is so cute!

Posted by: maile at February 5, 2007 03:12 PM

Oooo, lots of love for both Weepies and Ben!

Posted by: Vanessa at February 5, 2007 03:04 PM

Obviously, he has a way with the lai-dees....you may as well get him his own myspace page now. :)

Your son is absolutely lovely.
I discovered your site (via mighty girl) a few months ago and really enjoy it. when i'm having downtime or whatnot, i read some of your archives. i used your "i believe" post from your birthday and 'everyone's connected' post about the post office as a jumping-off point for a small group discussion i led, and passed it on to my yoga instructor, too. wanted to know, are you going to do another valentines love/crush story contest for Valentine's day this year?

Posted by: Ami at February 5, 2007 02:19 PM

this photo is SO precious. i heart deb! and ben!

Posted by: Teri at February 5, 2007 01:50 PM

baah haa haa!
i think i reviewed her brother's music? at discoveringartists.com. love the weepies.
