why do you blog?

andrea_maggie_mirrorball.jpg
Maggie is one of my favorite bloggers, this morning at the Alameda flea market, Canon Digital Rebel XTi

This is an excerpt from my interview with Wendy over at Mother Rising. I am reprinting it here because it was such a great question and I'd like to pose the question to you as well.

Why do you journal/blog?

I journal to remind myself of the good stuff in my life. I journal to count my blessings, to celebrate what's working, to remember where the color is, where the joy is, who I love, what I'm learning. I journal to work out the tough stuff, to feel less alone and exorcise the demons. I journal to make an offering of my life. I journal so that someone else might feel less alone or be inspired or feel connected.

I journal to feel connected.

I journal to share myself and my life. I journal because I want to create a habit of celebrating. I journal to remind myself and others that the world is full of beauty, often tucked away in the most ordinary and unlikely places. I journal to remind myself that there is beauty everywhere.

I journal because it helps me to practice seeing.

I started blogging to compliment my etsy store, but it quickly moved on from that. It became a way to keep in touch with people, to make new friends, and to express a creative side of myself that was undercover. I am ADDICTED to blogging. It is not really cathartic as my friend Tony suggested, because I don't share a lot of personal information - yet. But I like to get to know new people and it is helping me be more expressive. I just discovered your blog tonight and I will be a regular. I hope you visit mine as well.

All the best

Great pic - I smiled when I saw it.
Thanks for being here and encouraging me to look and see and reflect, having been inspired by you.

That's it. That's *exactly* it.

I often say I blog so that I can look back and see how far I've come—and how far I've yet to go.

Well said. Perfect. I journal for much of the same reasons, but am finding that I am still trying to find my comfort zone with it all, it still feels a little awkward. I see it as a journey to explore where i am going with my life and art, and where I have been as well as a forum to meet knew creative and inspiring people.

This is honest, lovely, and perfect. You said what my heart feels. You rock! Thanks.

I blog because I'm an introvert and afraid of the phone. My blog has allowed me to "work through the tough stuff" ( as you so eloquently put it) as well as share my interests and opinions on things. But the key is that blogging forces me to do all of this in arena where my friends, family, and even strangers can bare witness. It's challenging for me and I run away from it all of the time. But it's why I do it.

I've been reading your journal for a while now and I actually reposted this question in my own journal to help inspire me. It's not much of a blog, but maybe it will be one day, who knows. For now I'm content to find little inspirations in my life, like this piece, or your Mondo Beyondo lists. Thank you so much for being you and putting yourself out there for people to connect, it's really such a blessing.

This has been a recurring question for me, and has even popped up on my blog several times. (I have been blogging since 2001, first on LiveJournal and now on my own website.)

Blogging is so many things. Sometimes it's a cathartic release, or sometimes it's my tiny voice sent out into the crowd, or communication with my family and friends, or an artistic canvas, or a beacon of hope, or a cry of despair, or an expression of thanks. So many things.

It's me... in the written form. :)

yes yes...all those things....i couldn't have said it better.

as always, you inspire me!

I haven't think of my blogging as "journaling", per se. However, over the past year or so, I realize that I have used my so-called "food blog" as a place to share what was happening in my life - the community has turned my blog INTO a journal. Pretty amazing, when you think about it.

Hope you guys snagged some good stuff at the Antique Faire. It was my first time today, and I'm hooked.

I just started a blog again after a year off. The first time around it was to connect to others and find a voice. This time around its to use my voice, to build a community, and to share my artwork with the world and find other artist and crafters, to be inspired from!
I think... :) Great questions!

Yes, to all of the above. And also: I blog because it is my daily discipline. If for no other reason, I will create some small thing--some group of words, some image--for my blog, every single day.

Blogging to practise seeing - that's so true. Blogging also makes me see and it makes me think more (exercise for the brain). Gotta be good.

PS: I love the photo.
