I loved those in Highlights too! Mine attempt (here) is more like an "I Spy" book though. I'm loving these different assignments--fun new ways to look at familiar things.

tv tubes?

I was always afraid of highlights... don't know why.
The kids love it now though and my fear is gone. i guess i was a weird kid.

My guess as to what's in your photo, is it's those long floursecent light tubes/bulbs like in office or industrial light fixtures.
I really got a kick out of looking at it and trying to figure out what they were.
I was inspired to try this at home and while looking around the house for inspiration...I decided to photograph an artichoke that was in my fridge. Up, really, really, close it looked like reptile skin or some weird alien landscape.
My daughter and mom couldn't figure out what was in the picture until I got out the artichoke and sat it next to the photo I took.
I guess we all had way too much time on our hands at my house today...but it was a fun assignment.

i used to get those magazines...i don't know if its the same ones, but here in canada it was on the back of chikadee magazine!

this task was a wee bit harder than i expected...if i got close enough to something to make it hard to decipher it was blurry...but i did get one to work very well in the end!

I actually thought it was those pianola music things. You know the ones you put in the pianola then you pretend you're really good at playing the piano? Mmmm, could be quite quite wrong.

I think it is kinda easy but it is hard to pick out one picture when you took all of them and know what they are.

Wow, I was just thinking about that section of Highlights last week. I was feeling stuck for inspiration and was thinking about things I was attracted to as a child. That was my favorite section! I'm trying to remember some of the photos... pineapple skin and pencil erasers maybe? Too funny. Anyway great photo and I think I'll join in on your assignments. Thanks Andrea!

i do remember highlights, of course. i loved to see what that scoundrel goofus was up to and how gallant would ethically outperform his brother in every issue.
