Not much to offer you, - Ryokan (1758-1831) For Matt's birthday we went to the UC Berkeley Botanical garden to check out the ginormous corpse flower that blooms every twelve years. It was rumored to be bigger than human size and smell like rotting flesh! We were intrigued. It had closed up when we arrived and it didn't smell, but was amazing just the same. Here is a nice shot of it open. Posted on August 9, 2007 10:18 AM Comments

I spent my birthday (back in February) at the UC Berkeley Botanical garden too! What a lovely place. I think I may need to get down there again to see that corpse flower. How interesting. Posted by: Carrie at August 10, 2007 09:52 AMThat is a ridiculously huge flower, I've never heard of such a thing! Posted by: Toni at August 10, 2007 07:45 AMHere via Daily Relish... Love your succulent photo, it appears to be an agave. The corpse flower is called a voodoo lily and there are several species. Here in Florida Fairchild Gardens has one that blooms fairly often. We're lucky enough to grow a few of them but haven't personally had one flower! There's also a pretty cool smelly flower called a starfish cactus that the flower looks like a starfish but it smells rotten as well. It draws flies to it which in turn pollinate it.
