This fear of taking flight so resonates with me. I have made quilts, clothes, many other crafty items and yet, almost 40 years after starting to sew I still feel the fear. It's not just with sewing it's with every creative thing I do and when it comes to writing in my journal that is the worst. All the little voices come out to give me their thoughts and all their what if's. In my heart and soul I know that what I start will turn out or my OCD tendencies kick in and I redo it till it is just right for my way of thinking but the voices tend to delay my starting projects on every front. I need to work on taking that big leap and running as fast as I can right past the voices and take flight.

I just took flight this morning to fly to Minnesota for business and for the first time in a long long time I enjoyed the take off. Thank you for everything you share! It is truly inspirational. I am about to take flight into the journey of motherhood. I am very excited, but I also have the white-knuckle syndrome at times. :) For some reason, the thought of becoming a mother makes me feel like I have an opportunity to start fresh. Having the courage to express myself creatively has always been a struggle, but now I feel like the sky is the limit.

September 22nd,an honored day in our household as it is the birthday of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins. This is a good time for an adventure as I was laid off from my job Monday past. It is difficult to live in the excitement of possibility when there are bills that must be paid and children that must be fed but I am striving to believe in the joy of the journey. I would love to receive a book about 'taking flight.'

Wow, the book sounds amazing! I'm emerging from a horrible illness and am beginning to be creative again. Amazing how scary it is at the same time as being the only way to becoming fulfilled! I've been reading all about you wonderful women from Kelly rae and Boho girls blogs and was inspired to start writing my own. I love to play around with my camera as well although not nearly as creative as what i've seen. what an amazing group of women and amazing friendships. Would love the book but even if I don't win it's been great fun reading about all of you and i'm looking forward to future stories and pictures.

I just discovered Kelly Rae recently and her work is utterly fabulous. I would love to be one of the lucky 3!

I love the take off when I'm flying! My favorite part is when you feel the wheels lift off the ground--those first few seconds when gravity is still hanging on and the plane feels heavy but in a few seconds we grab air and the ground lets go and falls away.

This looks like a beautiful book and I'd love a copy. Will probably buy it if I don't win it. Would love to read how to be brave and take the creative leap away from trading time for dollars. To finally pursue a creative way to earn a living.

It's the leap I need. I think I am getting so close to diving into a creative life of teaching and writing, but something always holds me back. At this point in the school year, I think it is anxiety and fatigue (I just started a new job and I have 180 students to attend to). But when I think of writing, I always feel calmer. Now if I could only actually WRITE!

I love this notion of taking flight- stepping into another space, closing your eyes and jumping. From far away across the ocean I have been following you and the blogging band of women artists and makers in your journey to and from squam. From here in a Breton coastal town I have listened, read, looked, felt and breathed in the taste of your creations; the unexpected moments, the beauty taking flight!

It's been wonderful to follow Kelly's transformation over the past couple of years. What an inspiration - and affirmation - to all of us creative souls who strive to make our way in the world. And to watch our dreams take flight!

I have been reading your blog for ages but never posted before, I have just finished working 21 days straight, 14 hour days for most of those, to reach a deadline in my corporate hell design job, I think im finally ready to take flight!

I love Kelli-Rae's work. I also love the fact that she is also a social worker as well like me!I stumbled upon her work while searching Etsy for something reflecting pregnancy. I wanted something that I could keep as a reminder of the journey I was on. I found one of Kelli-Rae's prints that reflected pregnancy and I purchased it as a gift for myself. When I saw this print it just melted my heart. She is a very talented individual and her work stirs so many emotions in me. I hope to be lucky enough to win one of her books so I can read her wisdom as well as look at her amazing art work.

I went to browse books at Borders and picked up this book. Then I just noticed that my daughter's preschool has some of Kelly's prints up on the wall--I'm hoping this means it's fate!

i know this is a 'post and you are eligible' but i thought i would mention...

when i was pregnant with the twins i went into preterm labor at 26 weeks. i was so not okay with this (duh) but somehow i had found kelly rae's prints and i ordered one with this gorgeous pregnant woman with long brown hair, standing tall. i put it at bedside, where i spent the next three months lying, waking to seeing it, and believing that we would be okay, my babies would be okay. i truly believe i was empowered by the image, it was a shrine, where it stood by my pictures of my grandmas (not here but always watching over us). i still have it, kept now in a quiet place.

i will always be grateful for that image. it displayed proudly the way i wanted to walk through my pregnancy, and though the reality was not that, it will always be significant for the joy it brought in that uncertain time.

the picture by denise is phenomenal. i now want to become an artist so she can photograph me. ah, that woman.

i could really use the encouragement right now: i'm working on a book from my visual journals during my time in spain. i'm at that white-knuckle point, where feel physically ill just looking at it, trying to figure out how to present it and pull it all together.
even though this would be doing what i was meant to do, "moving forward in the direction of my dreams," it knocks me cold.

The take off is the scarey part - but even so I always ask for the window seat because I want to see what I'm flying over. I can remember looking down and seeing this incredible bejewled green patchwork below me and the monitor said it was India ! One day I'm going to take the London to Sydney bus to see all the places I fly over.
