September 19, 2008Kelly Rae is taking flight + GIVEAWAY!
I wish I could say I took this fabulous photo, but it was our superstar photographer Boho Denise who did the honors. Isn't it a perfect portrait? I love the beauty, romance, sass and strength she brought out in my friend Kelly Rae. Wow, right? Well, if you don't already know, Kelly Rae has a few superpowers herself, namely creating gorgeous paintings and inspiring us all with her soulful writing. In her first book, Taking Flight
As she and I flew together to NH last week for Squam, I interrupted our conversation as the plane was just about to take off. "I love this part!" I gushed and proceeded to look out the window and ignore her, feeling the thrill of the plane pinning my head back to my little airplane pillow. Little did I know (until a few minutes later) that this was the scariest part of the flight for her! and was using me as a distraction... We then mused on the metaphor of Taking Flight We will be giving away 3 copies of the book! Just leave a comment on this post and we will randomly pick three lucky winners. (Just push "post" once and wait a moment. The comment should appear) Giveaway Guidelines: Comments
Creativity makes life brighter ... love from singapore! Posted by: Mei at September 22, 2008 08:52 PMI'd love to be one of the first in Australia to have a copy of that book. I don't think it's available here until next year. I'd gloat and boast and tease all my friends and maybe, just maybe I'd let them look at it (only for a second though)So please, please, please, pick me. I don't get to gloat too often! Posted by: Davinia Algeri at September 22, 2008 08:31 PMUnder the wire, and completely devoted to the idea that I deserve this greatness, this miraculous good fortune to win, and thereby manifest the unknowable dimension of my own good heart. Thanks! Love yr blog, btw. I hope I win, I hope I win!!! The book looks fabulous, I've been waiting for it's official launch! Posted by: Anne at September 22, 2008 06:11 PMThis fear of taking flight so resonates with me. I have made quilts, clothes, many other crafty items and yet, almost 40 years after starting to sew I still feel the fear. It's not just with sewing it's with every creative thing I do and when it comes to writing in my journal that is the worst. All the little voices come out to give me their thoughts and all their what if's. In my heart and soul I know that what I start will turn out or my OCD tendencies kick in and I redo it till it is just right for my way of thinking but the voices tend to delay my starting projects on every front. I need to work on taking that big leap and running as fast as I can right past the voices and take flight. Thank you all for being so very inspiring, what a stunning portrait! :) Posted by: luzie at September 22, 2008 05:38 PMi have just stumbled into the community of kindred spirits as a result of reading Cloth, Paper, Scissors. i fell like i have come home. brenda Posted by: brenda at September 22, 2008 05:37 PMPlease, please, please!! September 22nd,an honored day in our household as it is the birthday of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins. This is a good time for an adventure as I was laid off from my job Monday past. Posted by: granola_girl at September 19, 2008 11:05 PMI went to browse books at Borders and picked up this book. Then I just noticed that my daughter's preschool has some of Kelly's prints up on the wall--I'm hoping this means it's fate! Posted by: simone at September 19, 2008 10:56 PMThat is an absolutely gorgeous pic of Kelly Rae (I knew it had to be a Boho pic!) and I love the title of her book. Kudos on the book's success! Posted by: Charis at September 19, 2008 10:41 PMi know this is a 'post and you are eligible' but i thought i would mention... when i was pregnant with the twins i went into preterm labor at 26 weeks. i was so not okay with this (duh) but somehow i had found kelly rae's prints and i ordered one with this gorgeous pregnant woman with long brown hair, standing tall. i put it at bedside, where i spent the next three months lying, waking to seeing it, and believing that we would be okay, my babies would be okay. i truly believe i was empowered by the image, it was a shrine, where it stood by my pictures of my grandmas (not here but always watching over us). i still have it, kept now in a quiet place. i will always be grateful for that image. it displayed proudly the way i wanted to walk through my pregnancy, and though the reality was not that, it will always be significant for the joy it brought in that uncertain time. the picture by denise is phenomenal. i now want to become an artist so she can photograph me. ah, that woman.
